Lover’s Leap

Overview

With lots of moderate routes of moderate length, this is a great place to come and gain some trad experience on quality granite. Also, most of the Bay area crowds arrive on the weekend, so you are better off climbing here during the week.

Seasons

Spring, Summer, Fall

Camping

There is paid camping right at the base of the climbing at the Lover’s Leap Campground. It is $10/day.

There are also a bunch of free camping sites up Wrights Lake Road off highway 50 (see map), a good alternative if you will be spending an extended time in the area. It’s also incredibly quiet and remote up there, a great place to relax in the evening by the campfire.

Water

There is a spigot at the Lover’s Leap Campground.

Food

Support the local restaurants like the Strawberry Lodge Restaurant,  but I’m still pissed about a $10 slice of apple pie.

Shower

You can shower for $5 at the Strawberry Lodge.

Rest Days

Spend a relaxing day at the Lake Tahoe beach, just a 40 minute drive away.

There’s an excellent public library in South Lake Tahoe to get on some work done. Once you get to Strawberry (population 50), wifi becomes difficult to come by.
